Solid Surface
Dupont introduced Corian solid surface in 1967, a synthetic blend of natural mineral and high performance acrylic, the formula for which had remained since 1968. Although other solid surface products have been created since then, all offer an inexpensive alternative to stone products with greater design flexibility.
Solid surfaces are homogeneous ensuring that the original color and texture remains consistent regardless of wear. Thus, minor scratches can usually just be rubbed out. If the scratches are too deep, a matching filler material is available that allows nearly invisible repairs. While it is possible to damage the surface, there is almost no damage that might be considered to be permanent, since the surface can be sanded and refinished.
Solid-surface countertops have been popular because of their clean, uninterrupted, and uniform appearance as well as their easy care.
